Getting Educational Transcripts for US and Canada

These days educational transcripts are needed to be obtained for higher education or immigration purposes (getting ECA done via WES for e.g for immigration to Canada)

I recently got the educational transcripts work done, and so would like to share the steps, duration and costs.

In the case of Under Graduation transcript attention, please note the following.

Note 1: This process cannot be done online or via mailing photocopies to Mumbai University, and expecting them to courrier it back to you.

Note 2: For getting attestation from Mumbai University, the pre-requisite is attestation of transcripts from the affiliated college where the Graduation/Post Graduation was completed.


a. All original mark sheets are to be carried (either by you in person or via someone you trust [proxy]) to the college affiliated to Mumbai University where you have finished the Under Graduation program.

b. In the case of Varthak College in Vasai, please call and ask for transcript division, they are very busy and tightly staffed, but quite considerate and helpful. You/proxy could fix a time and carry the following documentation
- All original mark sheets
- Photocopy of migration certificate (Transfer Certificate)
- Graduation certificate
- Date of birth and Photo ID proof of whom the transcripts are needed (e.g Passport)

c. Cost per transcript is less than 100 or so (my sister did it for me and would not give me the exact :))

d. They will give you a receipt and let you know by when you could collect the transcripts.

e. Always please pay for an extra transcript, so that you can open one of them and review it for accuracy.

f. They would give you in the princiapl's letter head, all the marks, hours of course work, number of months taken, year of which you had taken the course, course title, marks obtained, grade obtained.  This would also have a seal from Varthak college, Sign of Principal, stamp of principal.  They would put this in covers/give you separately covers titled Varthak college, sealed and signed by principal in flap.

g. For WES the need is you need to get atleast the final year attested from Mumbai University, so you/Proxy would need to carry these documents, along with orignals and go to the Mumbai University student welfare division (Next to Sydenham college church gate) Second floor.

h. The volumes for transcripts over here is very high, and by default it is 25 working days.  Here they would attest the transcripts that is there in the college letter head, you could also get the photo copies of the mark sheets as well as graduation certificate attested),  please carry plenty of envelopes addressed to WES or any other agency in the US/Canada, Mumbai University would put in these copies into the envelope and seal and sign it, seal also will be in the registrar's seal head.  Cost is roughly 10 Rs per transcript.

i. Collect these transcripts on the due date, open one to make sure all the contents are as expected, and assume that the rest should also be fine.
